Scotland has around two million hectares of peatlands. When they are in good condition, peatlands support many aspects of our lives. They reduce the effects of climate change by storing carbon, support clean drinking water and reduce flood risks. Peatlands also offer a unique home for wildlife, and they are vital to farming, crofting, recreation and tourism.
There is a wealth of Gaelic language and heritage intertwined with these special places. Join Ross Christie to explore Gaelic names and vocabulary for landscape features, plants and animals, along with a look at our peatland’s cultural prominence.
This event is free of charge and you do not need to book in advance. It is a partnership between Peatland ACTION, NatureScot and Ionad Gàidhlig Dhùn Èideann. More info: gaelic@nature.scot
