Edinburgh Gaelic Trail

[Tionndadh Gàidhlig]

Take on a journey through Gaelic Edinburgh on a new bilingual trail, Edinburgh’s Gaelic Footprints.

You will get an insight into iconic locations in Edinburgh with a Gaelic connection, from Greyfriars Kirkyard, to Jacobite heroines at the National Gallery, Gaelic poets in Makars’ Court, and even Gaelic AI. You will also find out about the legacy of Gaelic place-names in and around Edinburgh, and the sites of famous battles near the city.

The Trail was organised by Capital Gaelic along with the National Library of Scotland, with contributions from Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba (Gaelic Place-Names of Scotland), Ionad Gàidhlig Dhùn Èideann, Edinburgh University, City of Edinburgh Council, National Galleries of Scotland, Comunn na Gàidhlig, Historic Environment Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish Parliament.

The trail and is still being developed and it is planned to add additional sites in the future. If you have any suggestions, let us know.
