Cruinn Còmhla

[Tionndadh Gàidhlig]

Our fourth, and final, CRUINN CÒMHLA community day was held on Saturday 9 May in Newhaven. As at earlier events, the Gaelic community in Edinburgh (and other parts of the country) joined us to take part in a whole range of Gaelic activities – from classes on Gaelic spelling and pronunciation to arts and crafts, from reading groups to traditional instruments, from conversation groups to group singing, and from poetry to Gaelic’s history in Edinburgh. Thank you to everyone who came along and made the day so special – and to our hardworking and resourceful volunteers who kept everything running!

One of the main aims of Cruinn Còmhla days was to show some of the different ways the Gaelic community in Edinburgh could work together to create a space for Gaelic in the city – as a Gaelic Hub could do in the future. This was a big challenge, but over the four events we were able to draw on the support of many groups and individuals to help make it happen. Enormous thanks to them all!

We were also fortunate to have the support of Bòrd na Gàidhlig which provided financial assistance to run the Cruinn Còmhla days through their Taic Freumhan Coimhearsnachd fund.

All of these events were another step on our journey towards a permanent Gaelic Hub in Edinburgh. However, we cannot do anything without the continued support of the Gaelic community. Please consider joining us as a member of Ionad Gàidhlig Dhùn Èideann, volunteering to help take the campaign forward, or signing up for our newsletter to keep up to date with our activities.
