Take on a journey through Gaelic Edinburgh on a new bilingual trail, Edinburgh’s Gaelic Footprints.
You will get an insight into iconic locations in Edinburgh with a Gaelic connection, from Greyfriars Kirkyard, to Jacobite heroines at the National Gallery, Gaelic poets in Makars’ Court, and even Gaelic AI. You will also find out about the legacy of Gaelic place-names in and around Edinburgh.

The Trail was organised by Capital Gaelic along with the National Library of Scotland, with contributions from Gaelic Place-Names of Scotland, Ionad Gàidhlig Dhùn Èideann, Edinburgh University, City of Edinburgh Council, National Galleries of Scotland, Comunn na Gàidhlig, Historic Environment Scotland and the National Museum of Scotland.
This is the first edition of the tour and it is planned to add additional sites in 2025. If you have any suggestions, let us know.
