On 15.06.24 we held Latha Mòr na Gàidhlig – a special event that brought people from all across the Gaelic community in Edinburgh and the Lothians together to create a Gaelic Hub for the day.
There was music, coffee and cake, along with singing workshops, storytelling, talks on Gaelic grammar and Gaelic place-names, fun activities for children, Scrabble in Gaelic, Gaelic bookbug, Cinema Sgìre, books, Speak Gaelic, a selection from the collections of the National Museum of Scotland, and the opportunity to speak Gaelic all day. We also spoke about Gaelic hubs in Ireland and Scotland and the benefits that such a hub could bring to the Gaelic community in Edinburgh. A wonderful ceilidh rounded off this fabulous day.

A Big Thank You!
We would like to thank all those who helped us on Latha Mòr na Gàidhlig:
Capital Gaelic, Comunn na Gàidhlig, Edinburgh University, Comann nam Pàrant, Martin Macintyre, Catrìona Nicolson, Neil Macgregor, Gaelic Books Council, National Library of Scotland, John Murray, National Museum of Scotland, Kirsteen Murray, Fèis Dhùn Èideann, Richard Ross, Mata Wright, Rachel Alcorn, Laura Macpherson, the team at James Gillespie’s High School, West Loch Ceilidh Band, and Amadan – and all the volunteers whose help was so important on the day.
We are also extremely grateful to Bòrd na Gàidhlig for their support for the event through the Taic Freumhan Coimhearsnachd scheme.

Looking to the Future
On Latha Mòr na Gàidhlig, we also launched our community survey, which will run until 16 September 2024. We want to get your views on the potential benefits of a Gaelic hub and what people would like to see in one. Take part here.
It is important that we get a good range of responses as we plan for the future. We can’t take this initiative to create a Gaelic Hub in Edinburgh forward without you!

Bidh mise dol ann. Am bi sibhse?
